Nicola Carroll prosecuted an 84-year-old man who was jailed last month for raping a 12 year old boy and for committing numerous other sex offences against at least seven other children.
Nicola Carroll prosecuted ‘prolific sexual predator’ Gerald Glancy at Minshull Street Crown Court. The 84-year-old defendant was jailed for a number of sex offences against children, including Rape of a Child under the age of 13.
Nicola worked closely with the Prosecution team to ensure that the right offences were placed upon the indictment – the Defendant had been charged with four “holding charges” while the full extent of his offending was still being investigated.
During this phase of the investigation, Nicola liaised continuously with the Prosecution team. She held numerous conferences both with the Crown Prosecution Service and Greater Manchester Police and provided ongoing advice in relation to all aspects of this sickening case.
Glancy, who was already a convicted sex offender as a result of similar offending in 2016, brazenly committed his offences whilst subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and whilst under the supervision of the Sexual Offender Management Unit. During the investigation into the Rape of a Child under the age of 13, he continued to contact numerous additional children online and incited them to commit sexual offences – most of which were excessively graphic and were filmed by Glancy for his own sexual gratification.
Glancy frequently used Omegle.com – a free online chat site that allows unmonitored video chats and also allows the pairing of adults and children – to make contact with his victims, some of whom were believed to be as young as 9 years of age.
Glancy admitted fifteen child sex offences prior to a trial and was sentenced to 14 years in prison with a one-year extended licence, in addition to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Alex Mann, Senior Crown Prosecutor for CPS North West’s Rape and Serious Sexual Offence Unit said: “Glancy is a prolific sexual predator and a danger to children.”
“Working closely with Greater Manchester Police, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) were able to build a strong case against him. The weight of that evidence meant that Glancy had no choice but to plead guilty”.
