18 St John Street Chamber’s Neil Ronan successfully prosecuted a defendant who stalked, head butted and robbed a man of his casino winnings in Manchester City Centre in May last year.
Jama followed the victim out of the casino and tried to trip him up, he then strong armed him for a period of around five minutes. During the sustained assault he head butted him not once, but twice. When he eventually had the victim on the ground Jama was able to rob the two thousand pounds the victim had won that night.
An investigation was launched by GMP’s anti-robbery unit, as part of Operation Valiant, and Jama was soon arrested.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to robbery, stating the victim had racially abused and assaulted him; and that he was acting in self-defence.
Jama was convicted following a trial and has been sentenced to six and a half years imprisonment.
