19th Apr 2024
Olivia Edwards spoke this week at an outreach event for Manchester University and 6th form students from Chadderton. The event is arranged by the diversity lead Judges at the Manchester Civil Justice Centre and works as a bridge for local Students to legal professionals and the Judiciary. The event was attended by the new Lady Chief Justice of England and Wales, Sue Carr, Baroness Carr of Walton-on-the-Hill who is the first female Chief Justice since 13th century. The students sat in a courtroom at the Civil Justice Centre, were able ask questions of the legal professionals and asked questions of the Lady Chief and her new role.
Olivia Edwards commented, “This wonderful outreach initiative is vitally important for our next generation of lawyers. It enables students from different backgrounds to attend one of the countries busiest courts and listen and learn from the Lady Chief, senior members of the Judiciary and our local legal practioners. It helps promote the law and proves it is a sector open to all with an increasingly diverse demographic of solicitor and barristers.”
