Family Barrister Olivia Edwards and Family Department Practice Manager Vaughn John were honoured to attend and speak to students at Chorlton High School last week.
In her role with the Equality & Diversity Social Mobility Committee on the Northern Circuit, Olivia Edwards is tasked with helping deliver outreach events and mentoring in schools, youth clubs and organisations. The presentation at Chorlton High School was one of a programme of such events.
During these presentations, pupils and young people are offered the opportunity to hear from – and question -established professionals on pathways into the legal profession. The events can often lead to shadowing and mentoring opportunities in chambers.
Olivia commented: “It’s not every day you get the opportunity to return to your old high school (Chorlton High/Oakwood High) and share your journey in law with the next generation. The students were incredible, asking thought-provoking questions (including the classic, “How much do you make?” 😂😂).”
“Reconnecting with my former teachers was an emotional experience—I couldn’t hold back the tears when they spoke to me at the end! I even brought along my old record of achievement from over 20 years ago.”

“A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this event happen, to the amazing Vaughn John for organising and speaking, and to the generous Regional Tribunal Judge who also shared their insights!”
